How to use the Embrace 2 Watch
What is the Embrace2 epilepsy sensor?
The Embrace epilepsy monitor is an industry-leading device worn on the patient’s wrist, that allows us to keep track of potential seizures, and allows a carer to be alerted by phone if a seizure takes place at night.
1
Embrace is optimized to detect movement patterns typical of seizures that last at least 20 seconds. These characteristics are generally associated with convulsive or tonic-clonic seizures.
2
We cannot guarantee that Embrace will detect every single seizure.
3
Please note that Embrace is not designed to detect other types of seizures.
4
Embrace cannot be turned on and off. Therefore, please make sure to charge it first before using, and thereafter once every two days to avoid low battery problems.

How the Embrace2 works
1
Embrace detects events that may be a seizure, which are linked to the physiological data it collects through its sensors. The data is analyzed in real-time to identify unusual patterns in movement and skin conductance, and if an unusual pattern is identified, an alert is generated and sent to the Alert app.
2
Embrace connects to the Alert app on the supplied Android phone via a Bluetooth connection. When Embrace detects unusual patterns that may be associated with a seizure, an Alert event is generated in the Alert app. Whenever the Embrace disconnects from Bluetooth, it will not be able to detect unusual events and alert them to them. However, it will continue to record and store data in its internal memory, which has a capacity of about 16-18 hours. After this time, it will not be able to record sleep and activity data. As soon as a Bluetooth connection is established, the data will be transferred to the smartphone, freeing up the Embrace's memory.
!
Please make sure that Bluetooth is always enabled on the supplied Android phone.
3
If you choose, the Alert app can send an automatic call and/or SMS to your selected caregivers using your smartphone's cellular data or Wi-Fi connection. If the paired smartphone is not connected to the Internet, alerts cannot be sent to your guardians. The recorded data will be stored in the Alert application until an Internet connection is established. Remember that airplane mode disables the Internet connection and Bluetooth.
!
This option to alert a caregiver by phone/SMS if a seizure takes place is not part of our trial.
!
If you wish to use this alert service, please make sure that the Android phone is connected to WiFi / mobile data.
Charging the Embrace2
Hearts pointing at each other
!
1
Connect the USB micro cable to the Embrace docking charger, making sure that the heart on the Embrace is next to the heart shape on the charger.
2

Charging the Embrace takes about 1 hour and 40 minutes and will last for 48+ hours. You can easily check your Embrace's battery level on the Status page of the Alert app. You will see a battery bar with an information icon next to it. By tapping on it, you can see the remaining battery life with each bar.
When charging your Embrace, be sure to have someone nearby who can provide assistance in the event of a seizure.

Which wrist to put the Embrace2 on
Position on the left hand
Position on the right hand
!
The heart symbol of the Embrace should be in the 3 o'clock position. The sensors on the bottom should always remain in contact with the skin. Remember to wear the Embrace snugly, but not too tight.
1
Embrace should be worn on the wrist that generates the most movement during a seizure (if in doubt, please consult your doctor).
2
If both wrists generate the same amount of movement, we recommend wearing it on the non-dominant wrist to reduce false alarms. For example, if both wrists generate the same amount of movement during a seizure and you are right-handed, we recommend wearing it on your left hand, and vice versa. Your dominant hand is generally the most active, so wearing the Embrace on the other side will reduce the likelihood of a false alarm.

Alerts and false alarms
1
When Embrace thinks a seizure is taking place, Embrace vibrates and you'll see a red light spinning on the watch face.
2
Occasionally, some daily activities (any rhythmic, fast-moving activity such as chopping vegetables or washing dishes) can be registered as potential seizures and trigger a false alarm.
3
Many false alarms can be avoided just by wearing the Embrace correctly.
4
It should be attached to the wrist to the point where the electrodes on the bottom of the device maintain constant contact with the skin.
5
There must be no gap between the two so that no air can pass through. If the strap becomes loose, adjust it immediately.
